Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of counseling services provided by Matt Akoma, a psychotherapist specialising in trauma-informed therapy, addiction coaching, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. By accessing or using our counseling services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Client-Therapist Relationship:

  • By engaging in counseling services with Matt Akoma you acknowledge and agree to establish a professional client-therapist relationship.

  • You understand that the counseling services provided are not a substitute for medical treatment or diagnosis. They are intended to provide support, guidance, and therapeutic interventions to address mental health concerns.

2. Confidentiality:

  • Confidentiality is crucial to the counseling process. All information shared during counseling sessions will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law or with your explicit consent.

  • Matt Akoma adheres to professional standards and legal obligations regarding client confidentiality.

3. Scope of Services:

  • Matt Akoma offers counseling services that encompass trauma-informed therapy, addiction coaching, and psychedelic-assisted therapy.

  • Each counseling session is tailored to meet your individual needs and goals, within the scope of Matt Akoma expertise and training.

  • Note that within the context of psychedelic therapy only services in terms of preparation and integration are being provided

  • Matt Akoma doesn’t facilitate any psychedelic therapy experiences or provides psychedelics or any illicit substances.

  • Services are aimed at enabling potential users to make informed decisions, to mediate any adverse reactions.

  • Please be aware that the Psychedelic Support services offered by Matt Akoma do not include:

    • Administering psychedelics during therapy or consultation sessions

    • Information on sourcing psychedelics or providers

    • The sale of psychedelics

4. Informed Consent:

  • Prior to engaging in counseling services, you will be provided with information regarding the nature and purpose of therapy, potential risks and benefits, and your rights as a client.

  • Informed consent is an ongoing process throughout the counseling relationship. You have the right to ask questions, express concerns, and make informed decisions about your treatment.

5. Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy:

  • Psychedelic-assisted therapy involves the use of psychedelic substances in a therapeutic context, under the guidance of a trained professional.

  • If you choose to pursue psychedelic-assisted therapy, you must undergo a thorough screening process to ensure safety and suitability for treatment.

6. Payment and Fees:

  • Payment for counseling services is due at the time of service, unless otherwise agreed upon.

  • Fees for counseling sessions are outlined in the fee schedule provided to you by Matt Akoma. Payment may be made by electronic transfer.

7. Cancellation Policy:

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule a counseling session, please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid being charged for the session.

  • Failure to provide timely notice of cancellation may result in a cancellation fee.

8. Termination of Services:

  • Matt Akoma reserves the right to terminate counseling services if it is determined that continued therapy is not in your best interest or if ethical or legal obligations require termination.

  • You may also choose to terminate counseling services at any time, with reasonable notice provided to Matt Akoma.

9. Limitation of Liability:

  • Matt Akoma shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of the use of counseling services, regardless of the cause of action.

  • In no event shall Matt Akoma’s liability exceed the fees paid for counseling services.

10. Governing Law:

  • These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Australian courts. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Australian courts.

11. Amendments:

  • Matt Akoma reserves the right to modify or amend these Terms at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting on Matt Akoma’s website or providing notice to you.

By engaging in counseling services with Matt Akoma, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
